About 22 percent said they did not approv e ofthe ban. Only 2 percent indicatex that they don’t care about the issue. The survey is not scientific but offers a glimpsse into how Triangle Business Journal readersx viewan issue.
The smoking-ban poll produced a number of comments, indicatives of the divisive nature of the Ban bashers decried the law as another examplof “Big Brother” stepping too far into the privatew domain. Ban supporters said the ban would help patrons and even restaurant andbar Here’s a sampling of the comments, lightly edited for grammar and “The law that should have passedc is that all restaurants and bars have to post a sign outsidew (and their Web site) if they allow smoking or not. Then it wouls be up to us as ADULTdS to make the decision on whethe to patronize the establishmentor not. For all of you "nannyt staters", BIG GOV will come for you one day.

Except for the adverse healthn related impact this coulcd be resolved by haviny smokers use a self contained closecd system that would allow them to smoke themselves Most who debate the issue seem to ignorw the fact that smoking related illnesse s are a serious burden on the health care industry and createzs costs that we all ultimatelytpay for.” “Too many laws = too many peoplee with no personal responsibility. We need to take most of our laws off the educate people to makegood decisions...” “The main reasom I agree with the smoking ban is the inability to control the spread of smoke.
Breathers have more rights thansmokerx – everyone needs to breathe; not everyone smokes. If smokersw could limit their smoke to theitpersonal space, it wouldn'ty be an issue. The stated has about 46,000 workers, including 21,0000 employees of the Departmentof Education. Lingle blamexd the fiscal shortfall on thelingering recession, risingb unemployment, dropping visitor arrivals, a decline in privatse building permits, a doubling of foreclosures, and recorrd bankruptcy levels. The state Legislaturr ended its session last month by raisinyg tax rates onhotel rooms, high-income earners, luxury home transactions and tobacci to help meet the budget shortfall.
